Musa Abu Marzuq





Former head of Hamas Politicalitical bureau and a key figure in Hamas. Born in Gaza 1951 to a family from Yabna (near al-Majdal). Studied engineering at Ayn Shams (Cairo)
 and worked in United Arab Emiartes industries until 1981. Gained his Ph.D. in the United State (1981-1991), where he gained residency rights. Became head of Politicalitical bureau of Hamas from its creation in late 1992, then based in Jordan. Was 1st Hamas leader to publicly accept Israel within 1948 lands, and is seen to prioritise the notion of liberating Palestine above the Islamicisation of the struggle. Was 1st expelled from Jordan in Jul. 1995, and arrested at New York’s JFK airport. US dropped charges (May 1997) and returned to Jordan, only to be expelled again when Hamas offices were closed in Aug. 1999. A Yemeni national, he now operates from Damascus.
